Earlsdon Park Retirement Village comprises of 262 apartments as well as supporting health and leisure facilities to over 55s from the Coventry area. Developed by The ExtraCare Charitable Trust, Earlsdon Park Village has been constructed on the site of the former Coventry Technical College on Earlsdon Road, just outside of Coventry city center.
Dryvit worked closely with the Architect, Nicol Thomas and the Design Team from Galliford Try to ensure the building maximized its potential as an architecturally prominent landmark. The most suitable system specification was identified that could meet the requirements set out by both Building Control, the client and NHBC. With the building height in excess of 18 meters it is classified by Building Control as a high rise building and therefore the chosen cladding system had to satisfy their stringent requirements for fire performance. As the Dryvit Outsulation Rail system with its expanded polystyrene (EPS) held the relevant BR 135 classification it was well placed to meet the client and requirements for insurer approval for this residential retirement village.
Over 9,000m2 of Dryvit Outsulation Rail External Wall insulation (EWI) was installed over a lightweight steel frame (SFS) sheathed wall system incorporating a 140mm EPS insulation to achieve a U Value of 0.23 W/m2K. The system's drained cavity, also met with the NHBC requirements for framed substrates. The Outsulation Rail System incorporating a rasped EPS insulation also provided several key advantages during the application process that lead to high levels of aesthetic success to form the curved façade on the project.
